TPO Membrane System
TPO single-ply roofs are thermoplastic roofs made from thermoplastic olefin. Having been around since the 1990s, they are a popular system. Heat, however, changes the shape of these roofs. There is a potential problem with TPO roofs in areas where there is a lot of sun. But there is good news! As this is a relatively new product, manufacturers continually update their formulas to try and get a better level of performance. As a result, the quality of the product continues to improve.
PVC Membrane System
A thermoplastic roof system made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) has been around since the 1960s. There are several advantages to this kind of roof, including chemical resistance and flexibility. However, older PVC roofs are prone to shrinking in cold weather. Therefore, the National Roofing Contractors Association recommends no foot traffic on PVC roofs in cold weather (below 50 degrees).
